If you are looking for something to see in Peru, visit the city of the great pajaten.
This beautiful city worthy of admiration was created between 1200-1500 A.D. by the Chachapoyas culture on a hill of approximately 20 thousand m2, between the departments of La Libertad and San Martin, surrounded by the rivers Marañon, Huallaga and Montecristo, within the Abiseo National Park.
The Gran Pajaten is located between the Marañon and Huallaga rivers, in the province of Mariscal Caceres, within the Rio Abiseo National Park, in the jurisdiction of the Huicungo district.
The Gran Pajatén was discovered by Eduardo Peña Meza, when he was on an expedition to the jungle of the central mountain range of the Andes, and he informed the authorities about the existence of the citadel called Pajatén.
On 5 December 1932, Peña Meza was inducted as a member of the Geographical Society of Lima for his discovery.
In 1985, a team led by the Department of Anthropology at the University of Colorado began investigating the Great Pajaten in a highly publicised expedition that brought debates about opening up tourism.
But, in 1990 another expedition was made, this time, the abundant vegetation had invaded the pre-Inca enclosure too much, damaging some structures and ruins.
In 2019, an expedition with the president of Peru, Martin Vizcarra, congressmen, Mincetur's minister and specialists was again carried out to verify the site.
Currently, projects are underway to open up the region for tourism, but they are being delayed due to the fragility of the ruins and the high cost.
