The Nor Yauyos-Cochas landscapes are a landscape reserve located in the upper and middle basin of the Cañete river and in the basin of the Cochas Pachacayo river in the highlands of the departments of Lima and Junin. It was created on May 1st 2001 with an extension of 221,268.48 hectares.
The Cañete River in this area forms beautiful emerald lagoons where trout abound. There are also ducks, coots and other Andean birds, horses, llamas, cows and various livestock. The whole area is dominated by the beauty of the Cañete river that steals the memory of the visitor.
Travelling east from the village of Magdalena (Km 134 of the Cañete Penetration Road) and travelling westwards following the Cañete River, we have the following places within the reserve zone: Magdalena, Tinco de Alis - Alis, Piquecocha, Miraflores, Vitis, Huancaya, Vilca, Tanta and the snow-capped Pariacaca.
Some plant species are the quinual, the quishuar and the colle. The most representative animal species are the patillo, great white heron, huashua, harrier, peregrine falcon, condor, muca, Andean fox, puma, wild cat, alpaca, llama, vizcacha, marmosa, grey deer, vicuña and Andean gull. Tropical montane steppe, humid forest-Tropical montane, very humid páramo-Tropical subalpine. Pluvial tundra-Tropical Alpine, Tropical snow forest. Corresponds to the natural regions Quechua, Suni, Puna and Janca. Described by Pulgar Vidal or the Ecoregions (according to A. Brack) Serranía Esteparia and Puna and High Andes.
Some things you can visit in the Nor Yauyos-Cochas landscapes are the waterfalls and lagoons of Huancaya and Vilca, Lagunas de Piticocha, Mullucocha and Paucarcocha, in Tanta.
There are also archaeological sites such as: Huamanmarca in Carania, Huaquis in Miraflores, Vinchos. Andas in Canchayllo, Andenerías de Laraos, Carania and Vitis, where you can observe four different types of andenes and cave paintings of Cuchimachay in Tanta and Quilcasca in Laraos.
