Have you already set your destination? Marcahuasi is your option. In this article, we tell you what you should know before deciding to visit this enigmatic plateau. Described as a magical place, year after year it is marked as a favourite tourist destination; visit the Marcahuasi plateau.
Located east of Lima, the trip usually takes four hours. The first thing to do is to get to Chosica. To do so, you can find buses or colectivos at Paseo Colón. The buses will charge you 3 soles and the minivans, between 6 and 7 soles. The trip is through the Carretera Central.
Once you arrive in Chosica, you should go to Parque Echenique. There you will find buses to San Pedro de Casta. The fare is usually 10 soles. This is the final destination before heading to Marcahuasi.
Finally, when you are in San Pedro de Casta, you must go to the tourism module of Marcahuasi and pay your entrance fee. The referential rates are:
- Minors: S/5
- National adult: S/10
- Foreigners: S/20
Only then can you start your hike to the magical destination. The journey usually takes between three and four hours. Remember that, on holidays, the prices of the cars tend to vary. Generally, they raise the price from 3 to 5 soles more per route.
Disconnection. Monuments, lagoons, animals and a long walk offer you this tourist destination. Great stones such as the Monument to Humanity, the Amphitheatre and the Fortress are some of the places you must visit during your stay.
All over the plateau, which is four kilometres long, you can find stones with humanoid and animal shapes such as El Profeta, Las Focas, El Sapo and much more.
You will also find lagoons. There you will be able to see various animals such as vicuñas and vizcachas. In addition, the plateau is home to pre-Hispanic remains such as funerary chullpas and La Fortaleza.
The best thing to do in Marcahuasi is to take advantage of the hike and enjoy the disconnection in this magical place. The stars, for example, will be your best company at night.
The best time to visit this enigmatic plateau is between April and October. It is not advisable to visit between December and March, as this is the rainy season.
If you want to see the lagoons, it is not advisable to go in the months of July to October, as most of them will be dry.
Preparation is important for this trip. San Pedro de Casta is the last place to stock up on what you need. Once you leave for Marcahuasi, you will find no place to shop. There are no tourist services along the way.
In this regard, you should bring everything you will need. Food, water, warm clothes, medicines and, above all, a 'four-season' tent, if you plan to spend the night. It should not be a beach tent, because if you spend the night in such a tent, you will not be able to sleep because temperatures drop to zero degrees Celsius.
